CANCER SURGERY
Cancer treatment involves medical and surgical approaches used to diagnose, control, remove, or manage cancer. Depending on the type, location, and stage of cancer, treatment may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormone therapy, or stem cell transplantation.
Cancer surgery specifically involves removing a cancerous tumor or affected tissue, sometimes along with nearby lymph nodes or surrounding tissues. The appropriate treatment plan is determined by the cancer type, stage, test results, overall health, and the multidisciplinary cancer team.
Tumor Resection
Surgical removal of a cancerous tumor along with a margin of surrounding tissue when appropriate.
Lymph Node Dissection
Removal of selected lymph nodes to check for or treat cancer spread.
Mastectomy
Surgical removal of part or all of a breast to treat certain breast cancers.
Lumpectomy
Breast-Conserving Surgery : Removal of the breast tumor along with a margin of healthy tissue while preserving most of the breast.
Hysterectomy
Removal of the uterus, sometimes with the cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and surrounding tissues depending on the cancer.
Prostatectomy
Surgical removal of the prostate gland, commonly performed for selected localized prostate cancers.
Cystectomy
Partial or complete removal of the urinary bladder for selected bladder cancers
Whipple Procedure
removes the pancreatic head and nearby structures, commonly used for selected pancreatic and periampullary cancers.
Pancreatectomy
Removal of part or all of the pancreas to treat selected pancreatic tumors.
Hepatectomy
Surgical removal of part of the liver, including selected liver tumors.
Colectomy
Removal of part or all of the colon, commonly performed for selected colon cancers.
Rectal Cancer Surgery
Removal of the cancerous portion of the rectum, sometimes with nearby tissues and lymph nodes.
Gastrectomy
Partial or complete removal of the stomach for selected stomach cancers.
Esophagectomy
Removal of part or most of the esophagus, usually with reconstruction, for selected esophageal cancers.
HIPEC
Heated chemotherapy circulated inside the abdomen during or after cytoreductive surgery to treat selected abdominal cancers.
Ovarian Cancer Debulking Surgery
Removal of as much visible ovarian cancer as safely possible, often as part of comprehensive treatment.
Thyroidectomy
Partial or complete removal of the thyroid gland for selected thyroid cancers.
Brain Tumor Surgery / Craniotomy
Surgical access to the brain through the skull to remove or biopsy a brain tumor when appropriate.
Spinal Tumor Surgery
Partial or complete removal of the urinary bladder for selected bladder cancers
Nephrectomy
Removal of part or all of a kidney to treat certain kidney tumors
Lung Resection
Removal of a portion of the lung or an entire lung to treat selected lung cancers.
Lobectomy
Removal of one lobe of a lung, commonly used for certain localized lung cancers.
Pneumonectomy
Removal of an entire lung when required for selected lung tumors.
Head & Neck Cancer Surgery
Heated chemotherapy circulated inside the abdomen during or after cytoreductive surgery to treat selected abdominal cancers.
Laryngectomy
Partial or complete removal of the larynx for selected laryngeal cancers.
Metastasectom
Surgical removal of selected cancer deposits that have spread from the original tumor to another organ.
Reconstructive Cancer Surgery
Reconstruction of tissues or body structures after cancer removal to restore function and, where possible, appearance.
